Spam - in a nutshell - is:

Unwanted email that you did not knowingly ask for!

We have all had to deal with spam.

I get 200-300 e-mails a day  and out of that I get maybe 20-30 e-mails a day that are related to me and Lehigh Valley Computers. The rest are spam.   I've spent countless hours every morning sorting through the junk to get to those 20-30 pieces of real e-mail that I need to address.  The rest I spent my time deleting.

Spam is used to spread virus and spyware

and we simply don't want it.

I have 2 solutions that I have tested myself and come to rely on.

1. SpamBully4

I love this program!  It was easy to install! It has some great features and the price was much lower than I expected!

It has a feature that I've learned to love! It's called the "unsure folder."  If SpamBully4 is not sure if something is spam it places it there. I simply check it out and mark these e-mails spam or not spam and I never have to worry about them again. It sure beats having to run through 200 email a day hoping it did not catch my WANTED mail by mistake.

You still have to teach it what is spam and what is not spam but I've tested many spam filters - this one is just plain easy to use.   The banner above will lead you to a free 15 day trial so you can see for yourself.

2. Trend Micro Anti Spam.

I won't tell you that this is the best product that I tested out. However, it did the job!  What I love about this program is the price.  See, I am a Trend Micro Anti Virus fan.  If you have already read the anti virus tips you know that. If not I'll say it again.  Trend Micro has saved my clients a ton of cash when it comes to Virus related service calls.   Lehigh Valley Computers has steered 90% of our clients towards Trend Micro PC-Cillin just for that reason and were working on the other 10%.   What does this have to do with anti-spam?   Trend Micro Anti Spam comes with Trend Micro Pc-Cillin Internet security.   So, the cost is free!

Why is it ranked 2nd?

It tends to get knocked out by some of the anti-spyware programs I run,  meaning that I get to sort through the 300+  e-mails once in awhile, Then I get to re-install it and retrain it.   I love the program!  I love the price, I hate when software misfires.   However, if you know how to set up your spyware programs and you know how to teach them to leave Trend alone you will be fine.   As a technician I have this down to an art!  I'm not sure the average client will have the same luck...

If you're one of our clients we will be more than happy to show you how to set Ad-aware SE to play nice with it.

You do need to keep in mind that there are many other programs on the market to fight spam. However there are many anti spam programs out that are spyware filled.  If for whatever reason you decide to look at another anti spyware product please do your homework.  The above 2 are safe and they should serve you well.
